What happens to UK orders after BREXIT?

The UK has left the EU on 31st January 2020 and follows EU bloc’s rules until 31st December 2020. This post will give you all the information around BREXIT in relation to UK orders placed in our e-commerce store.
UPDATE: From December 16th 2020 to January 5th 2021 it will temporarily not be possible to place an order with shipping to UK. Orders to UK will be reactivated after January 5th 2021 when shipping carriers have switched to the new shipment processing system (incl. customs duty and import tax processing)
Dear UK customers,
It has been a year full of surprises, changes that have happened and some challenges that still awaits us all. One of them being is the BREXIT.
The UK has already officially left the EU on 31st January of 2020. But the UK also has 11 months of transition period, in which it continues to follow EU rules and use all of its benefits – one of the major ones being to remain in the EU customs union. This transition period ends on 31st December 2020.
This benefit grands all UK consumers the right to order their loved products from anywhere in the EU and get them shipped to UK without additional customs duty fees/taxes.
What is our mission?
Since the beginning of our business we’ve committed ourselves to create a store for EU customers, who share our passion into computer building and especially who love SFF PC cases (Small Form Factor) like we do. We wanted to offer our customers to get their hands onto product normally unavailable in Europe and to make it possible without huge extra costs, that are usually associated with purchase of such products from abroad. We believe that we’ve managed to deliver on that promise and will continue to do so in the future even after BREXIT.
What is the impact on our UK orders?
Majority of our offered computer cases are built-to-order. This means, that the production actually starts with the customer’s order and the product is built/assembled for that specific customer individually. Therefore it is normal that these products need some time to get produced, imported and shipped to the end customer. This process can take several weeks and can be even longer due to various public holidays.
Therefore it is expected, that a small amount of orders placed before the end of December 2020 will be shipped after 1st January 2021
Do not worry…we have taken some steps
What does it mean for UK orders?
It is still hard to say whether EU and UK will reach a deal or not. But one thing is certain…we want you to get prepared for whatever the outcome might be.
- Scenario 1 – A deal is reached and UK remains in the customs union. In this scenario the customer does not have to pay customs fees, but has to pay UK import tax.
- Scenario 2 – No deal is reached. In such case the UK customer must pay import taxes and duty fees on all shipments/orders that he/she receives from any other EU country after 1st January 2021 without exception.
What do we do about it?
Since the UK consumer has placed and paid his/hers order already in year 2020, he must pay all relevant VAT to the EU located business as per EU rules for VAT. There is nothing a business can do about that, even though the order might probably be shipped after 1st January 2021.
HOWEVER
If your order is to be shipped in 2021 and you have already paid for it including 20% VAT (since our business is located in Slovakia), we will be able to refund the VAT on eligible orders on the 31st December 2020 and ship them in 2021 VAT-free. That way our UK customers can be protected from double-taxation (paying import taxes and duty on already taxed goods). The customer will therefore have to pay his/hers local import related fees calculated from the cheaper VAT-free base price.
And hey! Since our shipping rates to UK are still much lower compared to US or ASIA located e-commerce stores, you will pay overall much less fees while importing your favorite products.
